The industry lobby group, the Betting and Gambling Council (BGC), has set out its goals for Safer Gambling Week 2024, aiming to build on the previous year’s efforts.
The next UK Safer Gambling Week will be held from November 18 to 24, coinciding with European Safer Gambling Week 2024, organized by the EGBA.
BGC CEO and acting chair Michael Dugher emphasized the impact of last year’s campaign. He stated:
Organized by the BGC in collaboration with Bacta and the Bingo Association, Safer Gambling Week addresses both online and land-based gambling. It is supported by bookmakers, casinos, arcades, bingo clubs, and online gaming operators. Charities, MPs, and sports teams also participate, with Premier League football clubs West Ham United and Brighton and Hove Albion promoting the initiative in 2023.
The BGC claims its research found an increase in the use of responsible gambling tools during Safer Gambling Week 2023, which took place from November 13-19. However, this comparison of November 2023 to November 2022 data may be misleading, as it doesn’t necessarily reflect the direct impact of Safer Gambling Week.

BGC CEO and acting chair Michael Dugher emphasized the impact of last year’s campaign. He stated:
New data shows that Safer Gambling Week continues to be a powerful advocate for the increased use of safer gambling tools in the regulated industry. Millions of customers now utilize safer gambling tools such as deposit limits and time outs. This is a cornerstone of the regulated industry and stands in stark contrast to the unsafe, unregulated, and growing online gambling black market, which offers no safer gambling support, contributes no tax, and does not support sports. Our members promote these tools throughout the year. However, a dedicated week, with the combined effort of the entire sector and significant support from cross-party MPs, the government, and the independent regulator the Gambling Commission, really amplifies this work – and the data shows it makes a real difference. The record numbers of impressions and the use of safer gambling tools indicate the industry’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that the many millions who enjoy regular gambling can do so in a safe and responsible manner.
