Assassin's Creed fans who have been waiting for the day Ubisoft will set the game in Japan will not have to wait much longer. The publisher announced today that the first trailer for its next Assassin's Creed game will premiere this week.
Ubisoft announced on Twitter and in a press release that Assassin's Creed: Shadows, previously known as Codename Red, will unveil its first official trailer on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. Following the announcement, an X/Twitter user discovered listing data for Assassin's Creed: Shadows on the Ubisoft Store, claiming it would be released on PC, PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X/S. However, industry insider @Shinobi602 has claimed that Shadows will not see a release on PS4.
Ubisoft originally revealed back in 2022 during an Ubisoft Forward digital showcase that it was working on a new Assassin's Creed game set in Feudal Japan, but no further details were disclosed.
Before today's announcement, two leaks about the project were spotted last year. The first one was in July when a Ubisoft employee updated their LinkedIn page to reveal that Codename Red would be released sometime in 2024. A second leak was spotted in late October when a senior writer at Ubisoft accidentally uploaded a photo of the protagonist for Assassin's Creed: Shadows.
What little we do know about Assassin's Creed: Shadows from Ubisoft itself is that the company is committed to releasing both it and Star Wars Outlaws by March 2025, as the publisher disclosed in its earnings report last month. Additionally, Ubisoft previously pledged that future installments in the Assassin's Creed franchise, starting with Mirage, will not be 150-hour RPGs.
