Friends who game together stay together. It's a beautiful way to bond. Like many of the great bonding activities, it doesn't require you to look at each other. You tend to speak more freely when you don't have to look someone in the eye. It's also a boon for friendship to have a common enemy. Usually, that's a shared coworker or boss, or a troublesome friend that forges the fires of kinship, but in the case of video games, you literally have a common enemy-- the game villain. Or you're battling each other, which incites some fun ribbing and playful buffoonery.
All to say, it's no wonder that video games have such a stronghold in our culture. They bring us together in unexpected ways. Just like memes, which give us a common language for making fun of ourselves. So it follows that these gaming memes will do double duty on that front.
